Let me tell you now, this is a judgement free zone…okay lol! Now, I am not trying to purposely mess up my skin, or hair. Something I have too many things on my to do list, tired, or just plain lazy. I have been know to neglect my self. Last month, I told myself I need to be more intentional when it comes to taking care of myself. Living a healthier lifestyle includes, taking care of body, skin, and nails.
We all have bad habits. We are guilty of doing something that is not the most healthiest to ourselves.
When you know better you do better.
So, this is my beauty “hit list”. I’m saying goodbye to all my bad beauty habits in 2019. I am looking forward to being better me, because I know better. On today’s post, I am sharing my bad beauty habits and how I have and will break them.
Bad Beauty Habits I Am Leaving in Behind
BAD HABIT #1| Sleeping In My Makeup
I am the biggest offender. I have slept in “full face” of makeup so many times. Waking up to smeared mascara, skin looking so dry and clogged. Wearing makeup to bed causing a lot of damage to your skin. It is best for me to go to sleep with a clean face.
To break this bad habit, I have put myself on a routine. When I get myself prepared for bed, before I lay my head for rest. I wash my face, add serums, and coat my face with a thick cream. I have dry skin. Let me know if you want to know more about my skin care routine! Once that is complete I can finally go to bed! Now if I am too lazy to wash my face, I keep cleansing clothes or micellar cleansing water & cotton balls, to use to clean my face before bad.
BAD HABIT #2| Using Dirty Makeup Brushes & Sponges
One of the things I dread the most when it comes to makeup, is cleaning my brushes. So time consuming. I’m lazy. Anyway like your sheet and pillow cases they hold tons of dust, and bacteria. This can easily spread all over your skin causing problem, clogged pores, and breakouts. Now, I have transition over to a using beauty sponge instead. Just like brushes, a beauty sponge need a good cleaning as well. Do you clean your brushes? Well, I am guilty of going long periods of time not cleaning my brushes and sponges. I undermine my clean skin routine, every time! At my vanity using my dirty, dusty brushes on my face, smh.
To break this bad habit, I try to create schedule. Every Friday night I take some time to clean my brushes. If you are too lazy (my current struggle) to clean every Friday, invest in a brush cleanser or brush spray to lighten your load.
BAD HABIT #3| Not washing my sheets & pillowcases more frequently
Just like brushes, my sheets & pillowcases need love too. I have gone 2-3 weeks without cleaning my sheets. I promise, THAT IS THE LONGEST I WENT WITHOUT cleaning my sheets lol. Don’t judge me, I was going through somethings, OKAY ! Our sheets and cases are the closest to our skin. They can hold dust mites, and bacteria.
To break this bad habit, I have extra sheets and pillowcases in my linen closet. I am able to change my sheet every week now because I have extra sheet sets I can use to replace the ones I have on my bed. To add, I started washing my clothes more frequently which helps keep my sheets in rotation.
BAD HABIT #4| Forgetting to wear sunscreen …
Yes, black women should where sunscreen. Maybe not a lot but we should not slack on it either. I constantly forget to protect my melanin. I did post about a sunscreen by Black Girl Sunscreen. I shared why I was not wearing sunscreen, why I was going to start, and my thought on the sunscreen I purchase. Check it out here. Overall sunscreen is very important to wear. It not only protects our skin from the harsh sun, but it protect our skin from premature aging from the sun.
To break this habit, I have added sunscreen to skin care routine in the morning. This is hard one, and I still forget to do it. I am work in progress. I keep my sunscreen near my vanity so it is accessible, and it helps me remember. I also put a reminder in my phone to wear sunscreen to my nail appointments. I do this to avoid further damage to my skin from harsh light that is use to dry my shellac nail polish.
BAD HABIT #5| Refusing to Let go of old makeup
Letting go of your favorite lipstick, eye shadow, or that discontinue product is so hard something. However, makeup does expire and it’s important that even know when to let go certain products.
To break this bad habit, it best that you get familiar with the lifespan of each makeup products. Foundation is good for 6 months to year. Mascara good for 3 to 6 months. Expirations dates are available on products To add, if it smells bad toss it.
Do you have a bad beauty habit? Are you trying to break it?
