I’m going to keep this post very simple and straight to the point. Love yourself. I really use to dread Valentine’s Day. Nobody special to share it with. Look at all the gifts on the timeline. I have learn over time that I don’t have to be bitter. I can celebrate too. What I take from Valentine’s Day is love. Not love for a lover or a significant other. Simply love for myself. I love me and everything that makes me … me! I have stated countless time before you can’t expect to love someone else when you don’t love yourself. It’s the truth sis ! It not easy. I have bad days, but I don’t let my bad days define Alayna ! So don’t speak down on you. Love you and everything that makes you…you! Had to say it a second time. So slay the day hun ! Love on yourself . Hug yourself . Tell yourself your beautiful! Know who you are! Change the narrative on yourself ! Speak kind words to yourself! Shower yourself with Valentines today and everyday because you are a gem that can’t be replace.
be enough for self first, the rest of the world can wait
What are you wearing for Valentines Day? Valentines is 2 days away, lol you have some time to get on board ladies. If you know me I am keeping this look budget friendly for the girls that are conscious about their coins. So I have this cute inexpensive monochromatic look. When it comes to creating a “one color” look, simply keep to one color and add different textures, and gradients. I decided on blush pink, one of my favorite colors for the season. To be honest, I have been quite obsessed with monochromatic fashion. So I decided to experiment with it this time around.
My look is clean, casual, chic, but still bringing a little wow-factor to the table. Guaranteed it will have your love interest trying to shoot their shot.. So if you want the tea on how I put together this look… keep reading.

I decided to branch outside of my quirky street theme and come with a monochromatic, feminine look. Creating a outfit based on one color can be a bit boring, to some. If you incorporate the right elements, and understand a bit of depth and dimension, I guarantee you will pull it off. To style the perfect monochromatic look, you want to bring different shades of the color, and textures. Adding depth and dimension to your look.. you should play with different textures. Remember to keep your approach clean and simple. If you have any other tips to monochromatic look, let me know in the comment section below.
So I again I was not trying to do the most for Valentines Day this year. I took my all time favorite light pink jeans and pair it with my fuzzy knit sweater. All from Forever 21, coming straight from my closet. Note: Jeans and sweater were the same color but different texture. If I wanted to add a bit more dimension and depth, I could have added cream/white button up underneath. Simple right. Last element to look is the nude pumps. Nude and blush pink to me are still in the same color scheme. To polish this look, it was only right to add a pump.
So today is my 29th birthday… I am so thankful to see another birthday. I have one more year to the BIG 3-0. To be really honest, I am kinda scared of getting older. Simply I am afraid of the unknown and becoming irrelevant. I recently was saying this in a previous post, simply discussing my plans as a 29 years old and so forth. To change my thoughts on the fear, I decided it would be best to focus and admire my growth. Growth in life is key. I am not the same girl I use to be, and I am so thankful. Instead of getting hyped up for about premature thoughts on getting older…. I am going to embrace my life, my age, and admire my growth! To admire my growth here are 29 things I have learned in my 20s.
You can’t pour from an empty glass: I learned in order to be my best self, I have to make sure I take time to take care of myself. While working and blogging I learn that I had to invest more time for self and mental care. So every day now I take 10 minutes or more for me.
Love Yourself! It’s really hard but it is necessary. Tell myself every day that I love myself. I learned to be honest with myself.
Holding myself accountable: You have to pull yourself on the carpet sometimes.
Embrace Failure: Failure is apart of life and if you are truly passionate about something don’t stop just because you failed. Try again and do better with what you know now.
“Listen” first: Listen before you react!
Know that God has you at all time: Simple as that! Don’t ever doubt that.
One person opinion is not the gospel: Their opinion is their opinion. They are allowed to think freely. It doesn’t mean it is warranted.
Everything does not require a reaction: I learned to be precious with my energy.
Never stop dreaming – no matter your age: Dreaming does not have an age limit.
Small Steps = Big Changes
Everyone’s feelings matter: It is not all about you and your feelings.
Saving money is important. The earlier you start the better
You are enough: Simple as that. I am enough and I do not need to do anything more. I am great the way GOD made me.
Invest in experiences: I learn that traveling is self care. So instead of feeling up my world with materials thing… invest in the traveling experiences
Negative people don’t have room at your table: I have no more patience for toxic people. So I removed myself and distance myself from people that do not mean me well.
Believe in yourself: I learn to take myself more seriously. You have to believe in yourself.
Maintaining any relationships requires both parties involved: Friendships, Relationships… Whatever it is should not be one side. Everyone has to bring something to the table.
Eliminate credit card debit
Comparison is the thief of joy: This is the truth. Stay in your lane and don’t worry about what someone else is doing. I have to tell myself this so many times over the course of my twenties. You can’t compare apples to oranges.
Practice Gratitude every day: Be thankful for everything. Big or small, Good or bad.
You do not have to tolerate everything just to say you have someone: Leave the f-boys alone. I learn that you do not have to put up with anything just to keep some one in your life. Especially the f-boys. Let them go and flourish
You do not have to be alone: Being alone is a choice in my opinion. I don’t have to be alone if I do not want to.
Who you know get you through the door faster than what you know
If the world says no go through the back door: Do not take no as the final answer.
Skincare over makeup: To have flawless makeup you have to start with a skin care routine. Do not sleep with your makeup!
Stand for something fall for anything
Eat the right food to feel good for the inside out
Learn to let go: You have to make amends with your past. I learn that I cannot let my past mistakes dictate me. Let them go and let it flow!
Embrace your family -look past there flaws: I have a lot of resentment when it comes to some of my family members. They have hurt me so in past I found it hard to let go of that hurt. Family members are humans. They are not perfect so forgive them and look past the flaws and embrace them.
Hey y’all, how was your weekend? I know for me I had a blast with my mom. My mom and I went to Campus Martius in Downtown Detroit this weekend to take a look at the Christmas tree. Around this time of year the heart of Detroit is lit by big ole evergreen tree from up north. The tree, in my opinion, is more beautiful then the year before. After the tree we took pictures, drank hot cocoa, played card games and went up and down Woodward and shopped down. THATS WHAT WE DO! We love to have fun. Anyway, speaking of the Christmas tree, it always puts me in the holiday day mood each time. Can you believe it, Thanksgiving is on the cusp. Time really flies when your having a good time. I am so ready for all the good food. (I got beans, greens, potatoes, tomatoes…. YOU NAME IT !) Lol I had too. Do you know what you are wearing for Thanksgiving?. With all the food and indulging more and more I like to keep my outfit simple, casual, and COMFORTABLE. I need all the room for my stomach . LOL In this post I will be showing off a chunky knit sweater that I believe is the comfort and cute approach to the holidays.

So a week ago I found myself at Ferne Boutique for an event with Femology. It was a networking event that turn into a shopping extravaganza. Ferne Boutique is a women own business that provides ladies with contemporary clothing and accessories. Laura, owner of Ferne, is living her dream. Before I go any further, Ferne is plus size friendly y’all. They have a really nice quality collection online too. While I was there my eye was caught by a mustard color sweater. Mustard is my favorite color for the fall and winter. It was calling my name …LITERALLY . Before I knew it I was striking poses and voguing in the mirror with the sweater. I think I looked at this sweater 5 times and finally I caved in.
This sweater can be describes as a mustard color sweater with a distressed hem and cable knit stitching style. I am living so much for this sweater because this is exactly what I am looking for when I say comfortable. It is soft, chunky, warm and over sized one size fit kinda of sweater. I have to say what really pulled me in was the distressed hem and crop like style. What I really loved the most is that it can easily hide my stomach after I had my extra helping of dressing. LOL To keep this outfit on the comfortable size I paired the sweater with a stretchy pair of thick black leggings for movement. Lastly to finish off the look I added my triple buckle ankle boots (my favs), silver/gun metal accent earrings, and pair of yellow tinted sunglasses with black rim. Little sidenote: If you want to turn up the heat on this look, instead of basic leggings… add a faux leather leggings and nice heel to top it off.
For this sweater it ran me $54 dollars. Everything else that was added to bring this outfit together, came from my closest. I do think the sweater is a bit pricey side. I prefer to spend $54 dollars on complete look. HOWEVER, I do not mind spending money on quality clothing. I mention before on previous blog post that it is okay to splurge on quality clothing that you know it going to last and timeless. That is just my opinion.
Ferne Boutique was giving me all the tea on the latest contemporary fall /winter styles. If you find yourself in Detroit or Bay City, MI do not hesitate to stop by the store. Say HI to Laura and her staff. Have fun ! The different pieces in the store are amazing. Also, if you can’t make it to Michigan, thats okay- you can always do a little online shopping !
