Casual Thanksgiving Outfit from Ferne Boutique

Casual Thanksgiving Outfit from Ferne Boutique

Hey y’all, how was your weekend? I know for me I had a blast with my mom. My mom and I went to Campus Martius in Downtown Detroit this weekend to take a look at the Christmas tree. Around this time of year the heart of Detroit is lit by big ole evergreen tree from up north. The tree, in my opinion, is more beautiful then the year before. After the tree we took pictures, drank hot cocoa, played card games and went up and down Woodward and shopped down. THATS WHAT WE DO! We love to have fun. Anyway, speaking of the Christmas tree, it always puts me in the holiday day mood each time. Can you believe it, Thanksgiving is on the cusp. Time really flies when your having a good time. I am so ready for all the good food. (I got beans, greens, potatoes, tomatoes…. YOU NAME IT !) Lol I had too. Do you know what you are wearing for Thanksgiving?. With all the food and indulging more and more I like to keep my outfit simple, casual, and COMFORTABLE. I need all the room for my stomach . LOL In this post I will be showing off a chunky knit sweater that I believe is the comfort and cute approach to the holidays.

FashionLayn’s Outfit Deets…..

So a week ago I found myself at Ferne Boutique for an event with Femology. It was a networking event that turn into a shopping extravaganza. Ferne Boutique is a women own business that provides ladies with contemporary clothing and accessories.  Laura, owner of Ferne, is living her dream. Before I go any further, Ferne is plus size friendly y’all. They have a really nice quality collection online too.  While I was there my eye was caught by a mustard color sweater.  Mustard is my favorite color for the fall and winter. It was calling my name …LITERALLY . Before I knew it I was striking poses and voguing in the mirror with the sweater. I think I looked at this sweater 5 times and finally I caved in.

This sweater can be describes as a mustard color sweater with a distressed hem and cable knit stitching style. I am living so much for this sweater because this is exactly what I am looking for when I say comfortable.  It is soft, chunky, warm and over sized one size fit kinda of sweater. I have to say what really pulled me in was the distressed hem and crop like style.  What I really loved the most is that it can easily hide my stomach after I had my extra helping of dressing. LOL  To keep this outfit on the comfortable size I paired the sweater with a stretchy pair of thick black leggings for movement. Lastly to finish off the look I added  my triple buckle ankle boots (my favs), silver/gun metal accent earrings, and pair of yellow tinted sunglasses with black rim.   Little sidenote: If you want to turn up the heat on this look, instead of basic leggings… add a faux leather leggings and nice heel  to top it off.

For this sweater it ran me $54 dollars. Everything else that was added to bring this outfit together, came from my closest.  I do think the sweater is a bit pricey side.  I prefer to spend $54 dollars on complete look. HOWEVER, I do not mind spending money on quality clothing. I mention before on previous blog post that it is okay to splurge on quality clothing that you know it going to last and timeless. That is just my opinion.

Ferne Boutique was giving me all the tea on the latest contemporary  fall /winter styles. If you find yourself in Detroit or Bay City, MI do not hesitate to stop by the store.  Say HI to Laura and her staff. Have fun ! The different pieces in the store are amazing. Also, if you can’t make it to Michigan, thats okay- you can always do a little online shopping !

Event Recap: Femology Robes & Rosé Event for the Ultimate Social Gathering

Last Sunday I attend an event called “Robes & Rosé”.  I must say it was  ultimate social event for like mind women to come together network and make some connections.  Its funny I say connections because Femology Detroit, a modern-day business work space for women and Supernatural, a lingerie store for modern and “magical women.

fullsizeoutput_23b7

These two different business platforms came together to collaborate for  founders, CEOs, bloggers, vloggers, business owners, influencers, and more to come together to socialize and make some connections.  I am all for making connections with women. We need more events like this to bring women together. Female Camaraderie ! Check out post on the importance of  female camaraderie.

At the social event we got a chance to meet the female founder, Carlie the Women Owned Business called Supernatural Lingerie.  She is based out of her hometown Birmingham, MI . She shared her journey with us on how she got started and why she felt is was important to have actual lingerie store. She stated, that she was actual store for women to come in to try on and feel the pieces on.   I also got a chance to introduce myself to Carlie, I asked her a questions about plus size items.  She express that a few of her pieces bra sizes range to 36G and panties and other bottoms range to 2X. Not bad So if you find yourself in Birmingham and you some new imitate wear, Supernatural is located on 303 E Maple Rd and they are open from Tuesday through Sunday from 11-5.

My Outfit deets…

So this event inspirational look that Robes and Rosé were going for the ultimate lingerie look. Lingerie, robes, fuzzy pumps,  lacy body suits, and more to spice up the fun. I decide to take it a different route. I expect everyone to wear a lacy bodysuit and robe however I wanted to be a bit more comfortable. This weekend I had a bit of a cold and I was not in the mood to expose my chest to the in between weather lol. So I took the Boohoo black graphic, that says “WOMAN” and paired it with Red and Blue Kimono from Forever21.  The look came out cute. Also because I am so ready for fall I put on my super comfortable thigh high boots from Lane Bryant. This look a bit of street style theme and little bit of flirtation with the robe. Serving looks all day!

little sidenote:

consistency is key. the more you put yourself out there and keep producing quality content the more people see you. you never know when people are watching you grow. when i was at the event. Meagan,  the founder of Femology, approached me and told me i was doing a great job. she was like i see you doing your thing. so i am here to say that keep going, don’t stop you never know who is watching your growth.

Carlie the store owned turn her dream of having a lingerie store. So my question to you is…

If you could own your own business what would it be ?

I want to be a successful blogger and work with large campaigns and brands. So I will ultimately want a street style fashion store for curvy women sizes ranges from 12-28.

Striped Denim Jacket

Striped Denim Jacket

Tomorrow is when my vacation…  and I need to get away from all the stressful things that going on in my life. I am so happy and thankful for this time! So it is only right that I post before my trip. Of course I can not leave y’all hanging.

I have been so overwhelmed and I know why… I am super unbalanced lol.  Unbalanced what you talking about sis ?  I am doing to much of one thing and not doing enough of the other.  How am I am going to get it together? Well first I am going to start by taking a well needed vacation. So yes tomorrow I am going to focus on having fun with my girls and be a bit more care free. Simply enjoy my life in my opinion is a good start to living my stress free life. Just like this outfit. Carefree and fun !

This look I am going for is all about the multi-striped denim jacket.  I got a hold of this jacket at Forever21. I was walking around in the store and stumble on this jacket randomly. Now this jacket is on the smaller side of the spectrum. Anyway I tried on a size large in the store and fit really real. Now for my sister with a curvier frame I have linked a couple of denim jackets that are similar with color. Sidenote: if you want to go for oversized look take a look in the mens section.

Anyway I was going for a super fun, colorful, maybe been seen at the carnival look. I paired the denim jacket with the golden yellow pants to match the gold yellow pen stripe in the jacket. I just know this outfit came together so nicely !

little sidenote…

i am watching a docu-series about 8 people who are plagued with different illness that can not really be explained. they look healthy on the outside but then they have a lot of health challenges.  not all the time does people believe them. some may say it all in there head. so the documentary is called Afflicted and you can catch it on Netflix. anyway it had me thinking about taking simple things for granted.  what if you couldn’t eat, or what if you couldn’t breathe, or everything that you appreciate the most went way.  have you ever just sat back and thought about. well this documentary definitely had me thinking…. like how much we complain about our circumstances in life. life can be so much worst and the simplest thing can be taken away. so we should be grateful for where we at and what we have. if you are not satisfy with something then change it. so take some time and think about all the things that you grateful for. i know that once you sit back and think you will develop a better appreciation for those people or things.

a few things i am grateful for is …

  1. waking up in the morning
  2. the breathe that i take
  3. those mother and daughter conversations that i have with my mom
  4. my job
  5. that i get to work on something that i am passionate about
  6. growth
  7. health

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity.  It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, and stranger into a friend

Side Effects of Being Loner

Side Effects of Being Loner

Let me tell y’all something. I have always been by myself. I am the only child… no siblings. Never had that many friends and the boyfriend department, don’t even ask- he just don’t exist on the this planet.  I can say that I switch back and forth from being introvert and extrovert.  I had to take a step back from the fashion and address some things that have been heavy on my heart. I know I am not alone in this category. I am super lonely and I am trying to figure out how I can get myself out of this hole I made for myself.

A loner is person that chose not to interact with people.  Let me add my spin to it…. I do classify myself as loner however I pick and choose when I want to interact with people.  Some days I do and some days I want to spend time with myself. I come from a long line of people that are loners in my family. My daddy, grandpa, and whole host of uncles that like to be by themselves. I got it honest  However, being a loner has been super heavy on me lately.  I am highly sensitive person and sometimes I need to check out for my health but no one really wants to be alone all the time.  I remember when my grandpa told my mother his feeling about his son, my uncle. He said “that boys need to get married, somebody that can get him a cup coffee or something. Right there my mom knew my grandpa was lonely. He spent so many years being loner that he some regret about it.  Back to me,  so a few days ago, my mom and I were talking  just about anything  like we always do. The next thing I know I  literally broke down in tears telling her how  lonely I was at home.  And how I didn’t know what to do.  When I go home it just me, no pet, no man, not even a friend to come visit. When it like this you have a lot of time to get inside you head, it really makes it hard to get.  The side effects I have appearance lack of motivation, my stress level is through the roof,  and I have been super negative. I am here to say that it not fun being by yourself all the time.  So I here to try to  rid us for being lonely. Friendships and relationships are more like food. We need it !  So lets try to fix this together.

How to Cope with Loneliness

Don’t get wrong there is some positives from being a loner. Self Dependent, you stick up for yourself, and you know yourself without comparison. I think those are all good things. I think when it comes to being a loner is, are you okay with being alone or not. Also I think you should find a balance with being alone and interacting with people.

If you are like me and your lonely here are few things to help us cope with loneliness.

  1. Identify it: Try not to be in denial about being alone. Being able to see and admit that your lonely. Ask yourself why. Are you afraid to be afraid alone? What are you really looking for ?  Ask yourself the tough questions about loneliness. This is the time to get real honest.  For me when I started feeling alone when one of my closest friend move away. Now I might me being real dramatic however those are my feelings. We use to hang out a lot and she was big part on how me and are other friends stayed together. She is just called away but I we be in denial if I didn’t say miss her company.

  2. Healthy quick fixes: Loneliness can be so deep that we can find ourselves i  a bad relationship because we want somebody so bad.  Try you hardness not to get so down in the  dump. Talk to a good friend or relative that you know mean well and have a heart to heart. I don’t wanna any of us to get caught up in numbing or pain and issue with drugs, bad relationships, and other ways.  For me I talk to my mom when I am feeling weighed down by a lot of stuff.

oh my god wtf GIF by iOne Digital
    Source: Giphy
  3. Help someone instead: Take your energy and help someone else out instead. Reach out to them and help through sometimes instead on focusing on other people not there for you. Strengthen your relationship with people!
  4. Get a pet: I have been thinking about getting a pet lately.  From understanding pets can help with your mood especially dogs, I am biased !
  5. Seek help through therapy ! :  If you are really having a hard time coping with being alone then I would suggest to seek out therapist. It is nothing wrong with speaking to someone about all your feelings that you have inside.

The Pain You’ve Been Feeling, Can’t Compare To The Joy That’s Coming.

Romans 8:18

So I am currently working through my loneliness. I talk to my mom and try more harder to reach out to my friends and strengthen our relationship a little more. Little by little I am opening up more and making new friends. So lets see how to bring me out of the dark corner .

What are some ways you cope with being lonely ?
