Summer is among us and I am so happy to shed off these layers that I have been carrying around. I ready to let my arms and legs breathe and feel the warmth of the sun on my skin. Yes !! Lets have a little blast from the past.  I had a conference call with Natalie from Eloquii. We were discussing Detroit and all the wonderful things you can do here. Also, the new Eloquii store had made it arrival to Detroit. On the call I was invited to the grand opening party as well able to pick out few pieces as a gift. I was so excited and thankful at the same. So I stumble upon this shirt dress. Now normally I always go for something that is a little more form fitting. Wow can you believe it ! The months are going by so fast. May has been a great month for Fashionlayn.  I got a chance to hang out with Eloquii and celebrate the new store opening at Twelve Oaks Mall. In addition, I went to a few other events. I got a chance to try on high end clothes with 11 Honore and Jadore Detroit, and I got center with Femology and Lululemon. I had a blast this month. Networking with other women and brands really put me in a better mind state.  I feel more confident now to reach out to brand. Also I feel like Fashionlayn is finally making a small dent. So it is time to get the ball rolling. Its June and I am catching up.  I got a lot of things to look forward to this month. More events,  collaborations, and goals that need to be met. For the pass few days I have been jamming to Janelle Monae’s album Dirty Computer. I Like That has been on repeat …  A little crazy, little sexy, little cool Little rough around the edges but I keep it smooth… and I like that! This album really speaks about simply being yourself, living your truth, being okay with you are, and making sure you don’t allow anybody to take away what makes you, you ! I let fear and what other people told me, dictate how I was going to live my life.  I was going be hip hop dancer but I let other people make me feel like I was too big to dance. I was going to a lot of stuff but the validation for other people stopped me in my tracks. This then turned in to lack of confidences and shot down my self esteem. Yessss I was invited over the past weekend to attend the Urban Cinderella Fashion Show at the Ponyride in Detroit.  So exciting ! This show focus its attention on 3 totally different brands…. Design, Makeup and Hair and 1 fashion show. Three brands, three ladies that collaborated together to bring us the fashion show for the season.  Let me tell you sis the whole show was serving black girl magic on a silver platter.  The Fashion Show gave us all denim inspired looks for the spring. The looks definitely came with a urban twist. Pearls, Ruffles, Distress that what the designer was giving me, a one of a kind looks. Have you heard the phrase… “Doubt kills more dream than failure ever will” ? Yeah I came across this quote on Pinterest and it really got me thinking about self doubt and how easy we can fall to it. Doubt can make you lack confidence in your abilities to accomplish something.  It hold you back from doing great things.  We all were given potential to do something great with our lives. However we still doubt ourselves. Why do you doubt ourselves in the first place ? Fear that we can’t sustain. Habitual doubter – It’s habit – sidenote: it take 21 days to break a habit. We lack the skills or the experiences Not putting the past behind us We believe what others day Surround by people who doubt themselves Comfort Zone/ Complacent All these things can make you doubt yourself. Doubt your potential and then it can kill your dream ! So listen we do not have time for the dream killing or the dream killers. Doubt definitely kills dreams more than failure. Dealing with body struggles is a tough thing to swallow. It something that everybody has dealt with throughout or some point of their lives. I can really be tough on my body at times. Wishing my stomach was flatter, I wish I didn’t have dimples on my butt, or stretch marks. Wishing my skin was more clearer or my teeth brighter.  All those things that keep me obsessing. Here come the school stories. I was called “butter ball” in middle school. Also I was the thick girl in high school. Yeah some guys actually called me big mama! Really ! You already know that having meat on your bones was rarely celebrate or in style.  Then I had a bad love triangle thing in college… all the way wrong! It’s a road trip time ! Time to escape from the cold weather… NOT.!!.. I am going to another cold city. Chicago ! . Chic town, my home away from home. No this is not a romantic getaway but it a GIRLS TRIP!! I am so happy to get away for a minute. Over the weekend we have a tremendous amount of snow. On the last day dealing with the snow,I had to go to work. Here comes the bad news. The car port that shields my car from the weather, fell on top of my car. It was pinned by a huge carport.
