OOTD | How To Wear Neon Colors?

OOTD | How To Wear Neon Colors?

Over the weekend I decided to make a statement by exploring my fun side using neon colors. According to the NYFW and varies magazines, neon colors are on trend for spring 2019.  I was so excited to hear that neons were making a comeback. As a fashion blogger is was super important to me to play around with this trend. So I took to the street of Downtown Detroit and strut my stuff.  Bright bold orange was certainly my muse this weekend. Can you tell a sis was feeling herself ?

Orange is the happiest color!

-Frank Sinatra

Now before you go “the brighter the better” there is a few questions you need to ask yourself before tackling neon.  Ask yourself how big you want to go? Are you a more subtle or bold? Are you a risk taker when it comes to fashion? Let me tell you I am more of a “subtle sis” when it comes to neons. Less is more.  When I wear clothes I like to make a statement however I don’t want to over do it.  I like for my outfit to be versatile. I want to be able to wear this wherever.

So I picked one neon piece and paired it with neutral colors and prints rather than mixing neon colors. Light brown, beige, or white are great colors to use to pair with neons, if you are going for a more subtle look.  In addition, adding a neon accessory to your wardrobe is another way to go subtle and standout and the same time. This is tip is for my minimalist sis. Now if you know me I quite quirky so I like to have fun with my fashion trends. I am not for all the rules in fashion. My personality has to reflect in my clothes.

I came across this high neck neon orange top from Shein. I had to get it because the shirt was on sale for $9. Can’t beat the price. I also thought the loose high neck was flattery.  The material of this shirt is soft and lightweight with a bit of stretch.  I purchase this shirt in 0XL which is equivalent to sizes 12. It fit to my liking.

Saving Note: When it comes to trends I do not like to spend top dollar. It is trend and it not meant to last. Why would I spend all my coins on something that is temporary?

Anyway I decided to pair this neon orange with my deep black jeans from Burlington. When I initially looked in the mirror all I saw was pumpkin LOL. I had to figure out a way to mute it down. As I was saying before you can mute neon colors down with neutral colors. Light browns, beige, and/ or white.  So, I decided to mute this down with my lightweight light color camouflage jacket from Forever 21. I love camo. The outfit was perfect! Since I am a girl of fashion that does not like following the rules I added my snake skin ankle boots to the mix. These boots are my favorite and they have been on my site nonstop. Who going to check me? lol just kidding.

Sidenote: Now if you are not a big fan of camouflage  like I am, you can pair your vibrant orange shirt with a jean jacket, or olive-green jacket. Also have fun with canvas or cargo like material.

Now, I know I should be talking about spring fashion wear, however it is still cold in the city. I have to keep it real for y’all. I had so many things to do…. 4 photoshoots, lunch meetings, and finding a gift for my dad. As I was walking up and down the city streets  I was keeping warm with my over sized double-breasted coat from Not Sorry Apparel.  The over sized coats has been in style for winter months, and finally I got my hands on one.  You can’t miss what the coat says on the bottom right hand side. “Detroit Not Sorry”. This coats stands out.  Y’all know how I feel about Detroit.

This coat came in handy and I received a lot of compliments on the coat as I was walking. So I will be wearing my heavy coat until the degrees on my phone in the morning says 45 degrees or more. Not sorry at all about it.

Speaking of not being sorry I am so happy to announce that I am a brand ambassador for Not Sorry Apparel. Not Sorry Apparel is a lifestyle brand for people who are not sorry for being themselves. When I have a lot of things to do during the weekend I like to go for a simplistic classic look.  This look carried me throughout the day. My capsule wardrobe consist of white crew neck  t-shirt, denim jeans, blazers, and ankle boots. If you want to know more about creating a capsule wardrobe, let me know in the comment section.  For the weekend I reached for a simple white t-shirt and paired it with my favorite medium wash jeans & and poppy red lip.  I mention in the previous post about snakeskin boots that brings a wild card to the classic party. These elements are all timeless to me.

Chapter 3… March Goals

Chapter 3… March Goals

It is that time again, a new month… time to start fresh. I always feel so much joy when a new month starts. February went very well. I met a lot of great people,  stuck to my blog goals, and finally I was able to participate in group photo shoot. Call this Cardi B growth! I got the ball rolling and cross thing off my to-do list.  Honestly, I feel like February was the month were a lot of doors open up for me. So thankful!!

So yes it is March and I am ready to get this party started right. Yes more daylight and sunny days !! Good mood approved.  I like to say that March is the month for women.  International Women Days is on it way, so I feel it right that this month we focus on well-being for the working women. More self-care, more fashion tips… all those good things that have us at out best. I stress time and time again,  that women do so much for other people however we have nothing left for ourselves. So we need to change that. How can we be more whole? Overall I just want us sis, to be better.

On the flip side, I am thrilled to announce the brand new ”The Gals Club” Podcast! We have been doing so well that I have to share it on my platform.  I am 1 out 4 co-host and we go live every Thursday at 7pm. If you want to listen to the last 4 episodes you can check us out on Anueyoumedia.com.  In addition download the SMD Live app to listen as well. You also can click the The Gals Club avatar on the right had side of my website, underneath the Quote of the Week!

Fashion Note

I love March because the stores start swapping out winter clothes for spring fashions. Yes honey, put away all your dark colors. It time to trade them in for bright neon colors, or dusty pastels & neutrals, yellows, and different hues of pink. I am all for it. Finally the magazines are giving the full tea on Spring time fashion. According to March issue of Harper Bazaar & Instyle magazines the spring fashion styles to keep an eye on are pleated midi skirts, beyond basic trench coats, tie dye, belted purses,  statement pendents,  and straw bags.

To spruce up your spring fashion get confident with playing with different textiles and textures. Crochet, fish net, fringes, and cascading ruffles were all up and down the New York Fashion Week runway! If you are a trendy girl then you might like the  minimalist safari cargo looks , short and sweet dresses,  or saved by the bell themes. All on the trend report according to Instyle Mag.

For myself I want to play with bright neon color, and light dusty pastel color. I am not sure how I am going to do but it doing to be done. Just keep an eye on my different social media platforms. Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter I always showcase a lot of outfits first on those platforms.

Blog Note

Like I was saying before. I have dubbed March for the ladies.  This month I want to focus tailor my focus on the well-being for woman. Making sure we treat ourselves kind, living a stress free life, being intentional and happy. So this month is for you sis!

I am so excited announce that I am a new brand ambassador for Not Sorry Apparel. I was so happy when they reached out to me letting me know that my application was accepted. So keep an eye out, I will definitely share more about the brand.  Also I have a lot a great content planned for this month ladies. I am so excited to share!

Personal Note/ Goal

February was a great vibe however I want to elevate! I want to come out at the end even better. So this month I want to focus on calm. I have remember to speak to myself and tell me that I am okay. My anxiety makes me so anxious something to the point that I am super squirrelly. So I have to remind myself to CALM down! Mediate and vibrate on high frequency. If I am not at my best then everything around me,  falls.  So my personal goals are:

  1. Keep Calm
  2. Drink more water
  3. Building more relationships Reach out and nurture those relationships
  4. Continue to keep going with blogging plans & stay organize
  5. Deep clean my apartment
  6. Think positive

Shoe Review: Snakeskin Print Ankle Boots from Shein

Shoe Review: Snakeskin Print Ankle Boots from Shein

**Shein did not sponsor this post and I was not compensated by anyone (cash or gift) for writing this article. I spent my own money shopping at Shein.

I guess you can say, I am where the wilds things are. Ha! This month I wanted to unleash my inner animal with a fierce print. Anyway I have been taken a liking to the snakeskin look. Shirts, boots, jackets.. I am loving it. What I am really enjoying the most are the snakeskin boots trend. I had to get me pair, but where could I get me a pair with out breaking the bank.

Over the weekend I received my very own snakeskin boots from Shein! If you are not familiar with this online retailer, let me spill the tea. Shein is an online based retailer that has really affordable clothing, accessories, and more. This retailer is based in China and yes it is a legit website to order from. Since I am a budget friendly blogger, I try to find retailers that cater to my size (plus size) and have affordable pieces. Shein does that for me.

To be totally honest, Shein can be hit or miss sometimes. You can find a really good quality piece and then the next time it can be a buss. Understand this, you definitely get what you pay for when you order. Honestly, I can’t beat the price point! So hey I am loving Shein and willing to take the risk from time to time. I will suggest to read the description of the product and reviews help too.

This time around I have hit the jackpot… these boots are bomb. I received so much love, I thought it would be cool to write a small review. On today’s blog post we are going to talk about the style, quality, and comfortability of these boots!  I will rate the boot from 1 OUT OF 5, 5 BEING THE BEST! You already know I like them but we are doing to dive in deeper!

Processed with VSCO with ss2 preset

From Shein I got a pair of faux snakeskin ankle boots that feature a point toe, chucky heel, and a side zipper. Immediately after opening the box, I was in love with the style of shoe. The pointed toe, and the print makes the shoe so edgy! It can be styled up or down in my opinion. Also the chucky heel is perfect. I feel secure when I walk on them. It was just what I was looking for in a snakeskin boot. It has edgy, fierce, and sophistication to them. I would rate the STYLE of the shoe at 5!

The snakeskin material is made out of PU (polyurethane) material with a rubber outer sole. This boot does not have a texture to touch on them, something I do wish it had to give it a more realistic quality to them. The zipper functions well, it is easy to zip up and that is a plus.  Lastly, the color is beautiful and realistic. I would rate the QUALITY  of the shoe at 4.8 !

I order these boots in a size EUR 40, which is equivalent to size 10 US.  When I initially took the shoes out the box I was in love but, a bit worry that they were not going to fit right because of my wide feet. So I proceeded to try on the boot on my left foot, the problematic side.  To my surprise they fit nicely. I have room in the front so my toes can breath. On the flip side, the shoes fit a bit tightly around my heel but they are doable. Sidenote: I think I would have to break these boots in to help eliminate the tightness in my heel.  I would rate this shoes COMFORTABILITY at 4.7!

Lastly, the price point of the boot is $30 on the website. Not bad at all! In my opinion this is great price point for a trendy boot. FashionLayn gives her stamp of approval!
