A Seat at the Table

(Album cover photography: Carlota Guerrero | IG @ carlota _guerrero | website) Happy Tuesday !! Today I decided to take a different approach on my blog. Instead of fashion lets talk about other love which is music. Most music truely express how I feel when I unable to find the right words to express how I feel. (if that makes sense) I wanted to share my thoughts on the Solange’s newest album “ A Seat at the Table”. This Solo 3rd album, and yes it was worth the wait.  The cd has 11 songs and 8 interludes featuring Lil Wayne, Master P, Kelly Rowland and other. I have to say that Solange has definitely separate herself from her sister.  This alum by far is one of the best this year. It so creative and embodies the soul of an unapologetic black woman. She is telling the true story out their heart, her soul, how she feels, and is perceived through other eyes. IDENTITY | IMPROVEMENT | GRIEF | HEALING | SELF EXPRESSION This album was soul toucher for me. Solo used her platform to sooth our soul a bit.  This came at the right time for me. Especially due to …

R A M B O

Happy Friday This photoshoot was the most liberating experiences of my life. When I first came up with the theme I was listening to PartyNextDoor and Drake -Come & See Me. I wanted to showcase my creative side of myself. So found some inspiring pictures on Pinterest and develop a board.  I love coming up with themes and making them my own. I was in a raw & vulnerable state mind. First I’m smoking a cigarillo. I have never smoked a day in my life and i know smoking is bad but why not try it. This was living on the edge. I doing something that I know is dangerous.  Lastly I decided to not wear any Spanx/ body suits / Body Shapers/ Control tops – whatever you want to call it.  I wanted to be raw. I want to show off all my curves, lumps, folds, etc etc.. ALL OF IT.  This is my body and I love it !! I appreciate more and more everyday. All in all I wanted to free myself from everything. Living life with no limits. We get so caught up in the rat race of life and forget to live life in the moment. …

RED X WHITE X BLUE

Happy Sunday !!! This weekend is flying. Geez !!! oh wait I got another day off. YES !!! I am currently in Birmingham enjoy the day with my mother. We just ate breakfast at Toast. The restaurant is  gastropub that serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner in a retro style.  I heard about this place from serval others and though it would be great to invite my mom. I love when the holidays come around because I get to spend more time with my family. I know since I move out of my own I’ve spending more time by myself and hanging out with my friends.  Holidays make me remember about what is more important and what I need to focus on. Friends come and go but your parents are always on your side. So remember during the holidays and any chance you get spend time with your family. Stripes N Things

Happy Tuesday !! I hope every enjoyed their Memorial Holiday weekend. I certainly enjoyed my extended weekend. But its back to the daily grind. I honestly wish I can have the reset of the week off.   I have went for a simple look this weekend. I really didn’t have any big plans so I didn’t want to over do it. So I picked this simple halter dress!! I got this dress from Target. I must say Target has really stepped there game up in the clothing department or just in general. Target at one point of time was not my favorite store. It never a hit or miss store for me ! I always strike gold !! Since my bottom half is bigger I decided to go with flare bottom that takes away from heavy bottom. The halter top just add some sass to it !! My favorite photo captured by my mommy !! Spring is in the Air!

Happy Monday!! OMG I have been MIA. I have not been feeling it lately.   I’ve been emotionally drain and I been trying to find myself a bit. I don’t think it is a good idea to post on my blog when you all can produce half ass work. Excuse my words. If you not feeling it your not feeling it. Self-reflect and then start to push through. I forget how much I love to plan for my blog. Putting together ideas and being creative. This is what I love to do. I am so eager to get this post up. I am all ready to focus on my blog and being more consistent. I have been taking a Blogging Bootcamp class. And I learn a lot about my niche. All in all I am still learning. I am still going to go for my goals with my blog. I am going to host my own site. This is my favorite photo of myself.  This is how I imagine this photo would turn out. FIERCE !! It was so cold this day. I had to push through lol (Photo credit: Richelle Marie Photography) Shop My Look:  Jacket: Jean Jacket// OLD Shirt: …

Blogiversary

FASHIONLAYN TURNS 1 YEARS OLD Celebrating 1 year of being a blogger.  When I first started my blog I was so nervous. I did not know where to start, how to start; I was mess. I just knew that I want to share my story with everyone. I have become more confident with myself, my writing, and creativity. Now, I must say this has not been easy for me. I have compared myself to so many other plus size bloggers in their success.  I know for sure that most bloggers have done this compare themselves to others. We get so plugged or wrapped into what going on in social media, you can’t help but start comparing yourself to others- wishing their success was yours.  What I have learn from blogging this past year is to RUN YOUR OWN RACE. Instead of focusing on others and their accomplishments, I need to make my own.  Comparing your self to others and take you off your grind and yourself. This is only the beginning for me and I can not compare myself to another blogger that started 2+ years before me. (Shop UrbanOG for many more great options) This year is going to …

Streets of Detroit

Happy Wednesday!! I am born and raised in the city of Detroit. I know what the media portrays it to be this bad city. Just take the time to look at these photos. Detroit in my lifetime is going to make a beautiful comeback. On another note, I tired to be daring when pick a this tulip skirt. In all honesty I wanted to show off my legs LOL ! I paired this skirt with a jean jacket and a simple white tank. Now that bad part about this skirt is that the mini skirt underneath would not stay down when I walk so I would suggest getting a bigger size or wear a slip to keep the skirt underneath down. Shop My Style  Jacket: Nicole Jean Jacket// JCPenny Shirt: Arizona Tank Top// JC Penny Skirt: Olive Ruched & Striped Tulip Skirt// Charlotte Russe Shoes: Black Caged Block Heels// Target Purse: Burgundy Crossover w/ Gold Accents // Dry Goods Special Thanks to my sister for taking my pictures !!
