The stereotype when women come together is that we are always divided. Trying to find any reason to claw out each other eyes. I also heard that we don’t root for one another when other wins. As a black woman I know it all to well. It is a huge stigma against black women I know yall believe because you see it all on TV.. reality TV tell women that we will rather see yall drag each other to make a quick buck. Do I really need to name the shows… come on now you probably watching one of them right now ! I’m not going to lie to you sis I am guilty as charge. I keep up with the shows too. Women against women sells! However, in all honestly I am over it! I am over seeing women fighting each over men. Or women not rooting for one another because of their own insecurities. I simply over the jealously, and unhealthy competitiveness . Please do not get caught up in that nonsense.  We need to stand up for our sis. Have her back !  Be a true friend because it is hard out here trying to navigate these …
How to Add a Pop of Color to Your Wardrobe
I wanted to express that this look was inspired by the late Kate Spade. Her love for pop of colors and polka dots was really inspiration and showed up a lot in her bags and other items.  Kate Spade will definitely be missed, she was one of the main reason why I got so into fashion. look inspired by Kate Spade- “The Things We Love” great coffee table book If you could take a look at my closet you will see that most of my clothes are black and white or neutral colors… not many colors. I have to consciously remind myself that you need more colors, you love color. What is is the problem. Either I am constantly reaching for my jeans, black body con, or graphic tees. How can I bring a small dose of color to my everyday looks?   So my number 1 way to add a pop of color to my outfits are through my handbags. Now most of friends will say I always see you with a backpack. That is true, I prefer to keep my hands free however I love handbags. Anyway, my love for handbag started when I got my first Coach purse for Christmas. I …
Summer Vibes X Striped Shirt Dress
Summer is among us and I am so happy to shed off these layers that I have been carrying around. I ready to let my arms and legs breathe and feel the warmth of the sun on my skin. Yes !! Lets have a little blast from the past. I had a conference call with Natalie from Eloquii. We were discussing Detroit and all the wonderful things you can do here. Also, the new Eloquii store had made it arrival to Detroit. On the call I was invited to the grand opening party as well able to pick out few pieces as a gift. I was so excited and thankful at the same. So I stumble upon this shirt dress. Now normally I always go for something that is a little more form fitting. You know body con dress! I love to show off my curves. So anyway all this month I wanted to focus on wearing items that are outside of my comfort zone. While I was online looking at all the super chic items that Eloquii had to offer I found this dress in black and white stripes first. I started to go for black and white fit. I …
Life is Better with a Pineapple
Enjoying the Simple Thing in Life So here is the story and how I got to a happy place from a pineapple. So 5 days prior to all of this happiness in these pictures I learn that I only had few dollars left in my bank account. I was so hurt because I still needed to pay a couple a bills and the due date was right around the corner. I honestly did not know what to do. I called my mom crying on the phone because I knew I messed up ! I was having to much fun and not watching my money. So my money was official “funny”. I had to ask my parents for the money … Noooooo!!! I hate asking my parents for money because I feel like I can’t handle my business without coming to them. For the past few of days I have been counting my money… making sure I don’t overdraft my account. Anywho, I plan to get my financial back together. I been getting great tips for the Broke Millennial book. Also, I plan to create another savings account (nest egg). So when hard time hit I am not drastically impacted. Let …
It’s June!
Wow can you believe it ! The months are going by so fast. May has been a great month for Fashionlayn. I got a chance to hang out with Eloquii and celebrate the new store opening at Twelve Oaks Mall. In addition, I went to a few other events. I got a chance to try on high end clothes with 11 Honore and Jadore Detroit, and I got center with Femology and Lululemon. I had a blast this month. Networking with other women and brands really put me in a better mind state. I feel more confident now to reach out to brand. Also I feel like Fashionlayn is finally making a small dent. So it is time to get the ball rolling. Its June and I am catching up. I got a lot of things to look forward to this month. More events, collaborations, and goals that need to be met. This month I am taking care of business. Focus and dive in deep into my creativity. Fashion Note This month is all about color. Yes it is Pride Month and I want to focus on all the colors of the rainbow when it comes to my fashion style. …
EveryBody Get Yo Yoga On !
FashionLayn Hangs out with Femology Detroit & LuluLemon Who  knew that simple  breathing, body posture, and meditation can bring you so much good feelings to your life. Yoga is that special thing I need in my life to help me heal.  Long story short. I use to do yoga once week for a few months when I first started working downtown. I would take my yoga class during the lunch time since it was free. Wellness is a big thing where I work at. The perks of my job. Any who I switched to a new position, got really busy and yoga was not apart of my life anymore. SAD ! So last week Wednesday I was invited to this women only self care event hosted by Femology Detroit and LuluLemon:  Self Love Yoga. It took place right after work for me and it was hosted at Lululemon Detroit on Woodward Ave.  Sidenote: Femology Detroit is a modern business workspace created for women to interact, work, and thrive! founded by Meagan Ward.. shout out to you sis ! Reclaiming Your Confidences
For the pass few days I have been jamming to Janelle Monae’s album Dirty Computer. I Like That has been on repeat …  A little crazy, little sexy, little cool Little rough around the edges but I keep it smooth… and I like that! This album really speaks about simply being yourself, living your truth, being okay with you are, and making sure you don’t allow anybody to take away what makes you, you ! Yes check out the Emotion Picture. This album resonate confidences.  Can you believe I lack self confidences? I let fear and what other people told me, dictate how I was going to live my life.  I was going be hip hop dancer but I let other people make me feel like I was too big to dance. I was going to a lot of stuff but the validation for other people stopped me in my tracks. This then turned in to lack of confidences and shot down my self esteem. Then, I would allow people to say and treat me with so much disrespect, I wouldn’t fight back at all. I would just cry and grow numb. Or I use my funny antics to hide the hurt inside. I …
